TECHNIQUES FOR MOTIVATING EMPLOYEES TOWARDS PEAK PERFORMANCE IN THE 21ST CENTURY

ABSTRACT

This study was carried out to examine the techniques of motivating employees towards peak performance in finance institution in the 21st century using Akwa Savings and Loans Limited in Eket, Akwa Ibom State as a case study. Specifically, the study was aimed at investigating the motivational techniques adopted by the AKwa Savings and Loans Limited, Eket to retain her employees; examine the response of the employees to motivational techniques adopted by the financial institutions in Nigeria; find out the problem hindering the success of the employee’s motivation in AKwa Savings and Loans Limited, Eket; ascertain if motivation lead to higher performance and productivity; and make recommendations and suggestions based on the findings of this study. The study employed the survey descriptive research design. A total of 30 responses were validated from the survey. From the responses obtained and analysed, the findings revealed that the motivational techniques adopted by AKwa Savings and Loans Limited, Eket do significantly lead to retention of the employees.. The findings also revealed that the employees do significantly respond to the motivational rewards adopted by the company. The study therefore recommend Managers must ensure employees are adequately motivated. Employee training and development should be given due consideration and training programs should be organized to cater for the needs and welfare of employees. More so, Management should make sure that career development opportunities are clearly communicated to employees and salary review should be duly done for proper increment.
